January 14, 2010At 7:10 PM, Director, Mike Bryant, called the January meeting of Region
5 B.A.S.S. Federation Nation to order at Ryan’s Restaurant in Martinsville, VA.
Pam Bryant, filling in for Jo Ann Holland read the Secretary and
Treasurer’s report of the November meeting and was unanimously approved by
members present. A role call was taken for confirmation of attendance. Those present were: ü

Top Gun Old Business: First order of business was to
vote on a new club, Cool Branch Bassmasters.
The new Club was welcomed with 100 The State Team now has a Skeeter ZX190 with a Yamaha VZ150. Skeeter
Single Axle Trailer, Minn Kota Fortrex80 45” trolling motor and Lowrance HDS-5
plus a prop is included. Blue and
silver in color. Joan has ordered and a
Skeeter dealer has our boat for sale. Our BASS Federation Nation quarterly magazine, Hook Set, is still in need of ads and sponsors. Contact Mike Bryant for prices and availability. Region 5 Calendar attached: Need to change the September 25, 2010, tournament to Sept. 18, 2010. Robert Vaden made a motion to change to September 18th and second by Jim Martin. All approved. Change place of May 13th region meeting to Best Western in Clarksville. In order for the Region to share
information and communicate with all clubs, please send your CURRENT email address
to Mike and Pam. If you or someone in
your club is ill or in the hospital, the Region would like to contact your
family for updates and send a card.
Please notify Mike Bryant at 276-340-7735. Dues for 2010--$30 for National dues and $35 for State will be as
follows: National and State by 1/3/10. If
you pay national dues by check send to Pam, please make checks payable to BFN
VA and she will take care of things for the clubs. Any additional members can be added anytime during the year. The State Website has posted a current calendar and benefits available
to all members. It can be located at the following web address: www.vafederationnation.com. Please check calendar before each event for
updates and/or changes. New Business: Mike noted that the State BFN VA has named
Will Seymour, Conservation Director. We
still need an Editor for Hook Set—anyone interested please notify Mike Bryant
or Pay Bryant. Sid
Ryan has resigned as the Vice-President for the State. Mike Bryant was the only nomination at the
board meeting and is now the new Vice-President for the BFN VA. We need nominations for a new Region 5
Director: Gwyn Brooks nominated Jim
Martin; CJ Plasters nominated Ken Lackey; and CJ Plasters nominated Robert
Vaden. Take this to the clubs for a
vote. Jim Martin declined and Ken
Lackey declined. Mike will continue to
help with all events and be a fill-in when needed. The region decided to take a vote today and Robert Vaden voted as
Region 5 Director, all approved. Robert
had to decline the vote and we are still in need of a Region 5 Director. Please call Mike Bryant if you are
interested or know anyone you want to nominate. We need to send two workers to Mr. BASS and 2
workers to Six-Man. We will meet before Mr. BASS and decide who can work the
state events this year. It can be a
spouse, parent or club member. Some of the members asked about the BASS
weekend series conflicting w/region 5.
We cannot alternate w/all other tournaments out there. Region 5 coordinates w/Anglers Choice because
they are a major sponsor and a lot of region 5 members fish the trail. Our first Region 5 tournament will be in
February. I hope everyone will
attend. Reviewed all the region 5
events for 2010 and the host clubs. The
host clubs can use their own scales and tubs or you can call to get the region
ones. Each member is to pay $5 for the region 5
fundraiser and it needs to be paid by May 1, 2010. Foothills have paid. Hooked up paid $35. There will be a Boater safety class 2/6/10 at
Laurel Park bingo hall free 8:30-3:00.
The cutoff is 30 people. **Since the inclement weather we had to reschedule the class
for March 13, 2010. Call Mike or Pam
Bryant to add you to the new list** Member patches: We voted to purchase some 200 and have on hand for any new members
that want them and sale them to anyone else who want them for $2-3. Motion by Dennis Brown, of Big Island and
second by J. J. Hale of Country Boys.

Settle Tire is our new sponsor and we will give 2 $500 savings bonds one
to each age group at the state championship.
First Saturday in June is youth day June 5-6, 2010. All clubs have to have sponsors at the youth
day event for Region 5. Bring a youth
and have fun. Any clubs that want to
host an event can get the new Casting Kids request from off the state
website: www.vafederationnation.com. 2009 region 5 team tournaments: Congratulations to Ed Santuk and Jeff Smith for
winning the points. May be we could put
$10 per team in a fund to give the points championship at the end of the
year. A motion by CJ Plasters and
second by J. J. Hale to make the entry fee $90 and use the other $10 toward a
fund. Only the five region tournaments
would qualify. John Robinson made a
motion and second by J. J. Hale to split the lunker pot to make $5 to lunker
and $5 to fund and distribute the
funds to top 3 teams. A vote was taken and all approved. Region 5 registration forms are on the website
for any clubs that host a tournament this year. Rules are to be kept the same all year and not change during the
year. Sometimes there are extenuating
circumstances. All region tournaments
are six fish limit and opens tournaments are five. Go to Bassmaster.com and Federation Nation and
click on Bass Tackle Depot. With a purchase you will receive a 5% discount and additional
5% will be donated to BFN youth programs. Youth Report: No report The next State board meeting will be held 01/24/10 at the
